February 3, 2012: Amrita Mukherjee (founder) gave birth to a special child (a baby boy, Burun ) affected with ‘Down Syndrome’. At that time like many others, she or her family did not have any idea about the syndrome. Since then she started a fight of her own for the well-being of Burun. In day to day life by interacting with others while traveling she came to know that awareness about these special children in the society is very poor, especially in rural areas. As she shared her solitude with her son, she started gathering knowledge on these special children. To reach every single Burun starting from her home, she finds some co-traveler in her journey and Gobardanga Jagori was conceived in 2015.
